I like numerology but don't consider it "prophetic". more of a "knowledge" thingie.
Oh, is there anything more wonderful than snuggling up with a honey pot and listening to the rain?

My favorite divinatory tool is the Tarot, because I am very visual and enjoy the pretty pictures for their own sake as well as for their detailed symbolism. When I have a knotty personal problem or feel vaguely upset and don't know why, I often pull out two or three cards and see if anything leaps out at me.
I own five or six different decks, most of which I chose because I liked the art. My favorite is the Robin Wood deck, and that's the one I usually use for myself. If a friend wants a reading, I usually grab the Rider-Waite deck, since I think the Renaissance-y art style is what most people expect to see on Tarot cards. That's also the deck I use for totally non-mystical purposes like decorating for Halloween.

The R-W deck was the first I owned, and the only one for nearly 20 years. I never really cared for the illustrations. that's probably why I put the cards away for several years. When I became interested again, I started researching decks. It didn't take long to find a few that are much more sympatico for me.

 Re: Divination
Well, I'm not a 'card-reader' and I'm not big on 'placements', but I have used runes to prognosticate ...
One of the things about it, I've found, is that I do best with 'castings' which yeid patterns to be interpreted. Now, this could work in on that 'everyone is psychic' thing, in that the interpretations are drawn in such a way that my 'powers' are directing which way the connections work. But I really don't think so. It can be eerie to have a bunch of stones 'tell' you what's going on and what will go on ...
I'll start a new thread about -how- I do a runic casting ... Seeing as this is the ritual area and all ...

I'm very interested in reading about rune castings. I've been working my way slowly through Diane Paxson's book. There's a lot to those squiggles in terms of history, literature, myth, and culture.
When I dressed a candle for our remodeled kitchen, I spent literally hours deciding on runes to inscribe. I can't imagine getting comfortable enough with them to do divination.

Can I post the results in the other thread, or would you like it pm'd? And do you want anything specific as a focus, or just a big ol' general reading?
And, ravenscape, I used to carry my runes about with me, grating and clattering about in their bag as an attempt to 'attune' them to myself ...
That said, I've had great luck with the clay set that I have, but the soladite set that I've got, I can only describe as 'playful' in it's readings. It's -never- 'attuned', no matter how long I spent with them in pockets or bags or running my fingers through them, etc.

The first thing I ever touched was Runes, I have a pendulum, and the tool I always turn to is a deck of "animal medicine cards" I was introduced to them through a reading from a long time friend (talk about secretive, I had NO idea she was pagan) during a very tumultous time and they have stuck with me ever since. :cat: Maybe because I have been around alot of wild animals and have that background.....its pretty neat how your tool picks you. I do use runes on occasion still, I have a set from the store and I made a set with some rocks I brought back from Sedona. :sunny: I have had premonition type dreams and some pretty bizarre synchronostic events happen to me. I used to meditate alot and have seen one of my spirit guides....I was pretty new to the whole experience and was kinda wigged out, like "WHO THE HELL WAS THAT?" LOL!

 Re: Divination
I did tarot cards for several years and really enjoyed them. I had several people who came to me regularly in college for readings. It never failed that some card didn't create a conversation about what was going on in their life. At that point it was just listening and offering some advice.
